Have You Ever Met Someone Famous?
is great to hear some of the stories people tell him. I have had a couple that I will always remember. The first was when I was about 11 or 12. My Knothole coach
at the time was Bob Wahlke (by the way an Eastgate Pools and Spas customer) and he
lived 2 doors down from an Anderson High School Graduate and Major league pitcher Rich Dotson. At the time I think he was pitching for the Yankees, but our coach had set up for our pitchers to go to Beechmont Racquet club and have a pitching session with him!! I will never forget looking at him as something bigger than life!! Years later he would become my pitching coach at Anderson when I was a Junior and Senior. I still can remember the stories he told us about being in the Major Leagues!!
The other time, was when our Anderson Football team was invited by Jeff Ruby to have dinner down at the Waterfront, in what was called The Sports Rock Café. As we were enjoying our dinner, local hero Pete Rose walked in and had a seat at the bar. We were all in awe. Pete Rose was sitting 10 feet away from all of us!! You may be wondering why I remember that so much? Well, because Pete took time to sign autographs for all 85 players and coaches!! He was very nice and made a point to make sure no one was missed. Even making sure I got one because I was on crutches with a broken ankle!!
