The Legacy Edition Inground Pool. Quality Where it Counts the Most.

I’ll admit that many steel-walled, vinyl-liner inground pools look good when the installation is completed. But there is a reason for that. You basically see the liner, the coping that holds it in place, and the decking. Maybe a ladder or diving board, but not much else. And this is all important. Nobody wants an eyesore in their backyard. But with all due respect, if you put pearl earrings on a pig, it’s still a pig. In a similar vein, buy an inground pool with inferior steel components and it’s still an inferior pool. And that can lead to big problems.

The boring parts matter.

It’s not glamorous to discuss steel walls, but like a new car, what’s under the hood matters. And just like with that car, pinching pennies can eventually cost you a lot of money. Imperial Pools of Latham New York manufactures the finest steel wall inground pool on the market: the Legacy Edition. Okay. That’s editorial comment and my opinion, but I base it on things learned since I started in the business in 1974. They simply take no shortcuts with the component that matters the most when defining quality in steel wall pools. That’s the steel itself and how it is designed, produced, and formed to guarantee strength and ensure long life. Let’s look at specifics.

Steel thickness.

You won’t find thicker steel walls. Walls themselves are 14 gauge. Angle braces are even thicker at 10-gauge. To compare, a commonly found 20-gauge steel wall is half as thick as a 14-gauge wall.

G235 Zinc Galvanization.

The ‘G’ stands for galvanization and ‘235’ represents 2.35 ounces of zinc galvanization per square foot of surface area. It is hot-dipped so the protective coating coats both sides of the steel. Galvanization is what keeps steel from rusting, and this is the highest galvanization rate you will find in the industry.

7-inch Triple Bend steel construction.

With steel, you strengthen it when you bend it. The industry standard is to perform two bends. However, Legacy Edition steel features a third bend, totaling out to seven inches of steel.

By adding the third bend, Imperial makes their Legacy Edition pool 33.3% stronger than standard double bend pool walls. Furthermore, the third bend helps lock concrete footers and the wall together so that any ground shift will have no effect on structural support.

Flanges.

Talk about exciting! I’ll be brief. Imperial adds flanges in the middle of their eight-foot panels. These are also triple bend pieces that add strength and keep these longer panels from warping. These are the longest panels used in a Legacy Edition pool, while some other manufacturers use far longer ones that don’t have the same stabilizing flanges on them. Those walls are much more susceptible to warping. Installers are directed to fill the pool slowly and carefully backfill at the same level and speed. This equalized pressure holds their walls straight. But what happens if the installer is off a little or you must drain the pool down the road?

No welds.

A common industry practice is to weld flanges or other attachable components to the wall. In my opinion, this is about the worst thing you can do to destroy steel integrity over time. Simply, welding scars galvanization and creates a place for rust to start unimpeded. It’s like a ticking time bomb.

Ther are no welds on Legacy Edition pools. Walls are all punch pressed and bent before the galvanization process. There are no inherently weak spots on the walls. Period.

The result is the finest warranty in the business.

Imperial Pools is so confident that their Legacy Edition pools are the best pools on the market, they give a transferable lifetime warranty on all steel components. That’s strong, but not as strong as a simple fact: In building over 4000 Legacy Edition pools over forty-plus years, Eastgate Pools has never had to replace a single wall panel. That’s around 60,000 to 70,000 total panels. Not one. And the best warranty is the one you never have to use.
